Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How old do I need to be?
You need to be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2025 to be on the Minnesota Minx for the 2025 season.

Q: I have never played football before, does that matter?
Due to the lack of a girl's football program, almost 90% of our players have never played football before becoming a Minx. Our coaches will train you on everything you need to know - from what a first down is to tackling to learning your playbook. What we really need is dedicated athletes who are eager to learn!

Q: Are there many injuries?
Like any sport, especially a contact, physical sport such as football, there will be injuries. The most common are pulled muscles and sprains. Of course you can decrease your risk by being in-shape, properly warming up, and working on flexibility.

Q: I'm not really in shape, does it matter?
Of course being in-shape is ideal, but we will get you in shape! If you are offered a contract, we will be offering off-season and pre-season training to properly prepare you for the season! If you're excited and want to get started today, there is no such thing as too much cardio! In addition, we would advise working on core and leg strength. Remember, football needs athletes of all shapes and sizes. An o-line player and a wide receiver do not need to have the same amount of cardio or the same strength!

Q: Why do you charge money for tryouts?
The $35 fee for tryouts covers the cost of the WFA league registration if they are offered and accepted on the Minx.

Q: Do I need to attend more than one tryouts?
The quick answer is no, coming to more than one tryout is not required. However, after you complete a tryout, you are welcome to come to the following tryouts to work on your skills and conditioning, and to meet your potential teammates. Attending more than one tryout may increase your chances of making the team.

Q: How many people make the team?
The Minx roster size is determined by the number of athletes who attend our tryouts, as well as individuals that are coachable and embody our mission, vision, and values.

Q: What are you looking for in a player?
We really want dedicated athletes who are eager to learn, willing to work hard, and embody our mission, vision, and values. While a background in athletics or sports, however small, is helpful, it is not necessary. Remember, we are looking for athletes of ALL shapes and sizes, as there is a place for everyone on the field!

Q: When do you practice?
We encourage our athletes to participate in some off-season and pre-season training opportunities. However, formal practice begins in January. Currently, we practice Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Additionally, there is an online team chalk talk on Monday evenings.

Q: Where do you practice?
Historically, our main home base of operations is at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN. For dome practices, we have practiced at the Savage Sports Complex in Savage, MN. Outdoor practices were at Johnson High School in Saint Paul. However, these locations are subject to change for the 2025 Season depending on scheduling availability.
Q: I cannot attend all practice, can I still be on the team?
There is a definite correlation between teams that have good attendance and teams that win. We highly encourage attendance but we understand that players have jobs and families outside of the team. We do expect players to have at least a 66% attendance rate and to communicate any absences or barriers to our leadership team. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!

Q: Are transgender athletes and non-binary persons allowed to play?
YES! Both the Minnesota Minx and our league the Women's Football Alliance (WFA) welcome transgender and non-binary athletes. We highly encourage you to try out! Please check out the WFA Bylaws here for specific league requirements.

Q: What do you do at tryouts?
Tryouts are a tool to assess your current physical abilities and coachability, so we do a handful of different general assessments. In the past, we have a series of drills including:

-
40 yard dash
-
Broad jump
-
5-10-5
-
3 cone drill
-
Box drill
-
Med ball toss
-
Other position specific drills such as quarterback, wide receiver, and kicking drills.
Not every player will excel on every drill especially if you have not played football before, but it gives the coaches a look at your base athleticism and evaluate your potential for different positions. We also provide feedback during tryouts, as we run drills multiple times. This allows us to assess an athlete’s ability to receive and apply coaching tips.

Q: My payment failed. Is there an alternative way to pay?

Yes - If your payment failed or paying with a debit/credit card does not work for you, the registration form may not have gone through. However, we still want to see you at tryouts! Send us an email at minx@mnminx.com to discuss alternative payment methods (such as cash or Venmo). Alternatively, feel free to show up to tryouts and we will assist you with finalizing payment.
